The best fiction I've read this year
Last night I finished reading my 100th book of the year. I read a lot generally and this year between research projects and timing befucklery, there have been times when reading has been my only escape.
The 100th book was N.K. Jemisin’s The Fifth Season, and it’s incredible and I can’t wait to move onto the next book in that trilogy (all three of the books in that trilogy won the Hugo award for best novel of the year.)
I bought The Fifth Season because I had just finished The City We Became which is Jemisin’s most recent novel and was so impressed with it, I was compelled to read more from the author. In fact, of the 100 books, a little over half are fiction, and the best two fiction books I’ve read this year are The City We Became and The Fifth Season.
I won’t go into summaries of either because I don’t want to spoil them for someone else, I will just say that they are excellent and I’m glad to have found another author who I will be reading all her books from this point on.
